Principle

Non-violence and use of force

We take non-violence as the default. Force remains an exception subject to necessity, proportionality and oversight.

The proposal

Non-violence is the default; force is permitted only for protection or self-defence, or for legitimate public functions, within requirements of necessity, proportionality, oversight and remedy.

How to read it

Sources identify relevant rights, methods, findings or precedents. They do not automatically establish the full World4Humans formulation. Where the project makes its own choice, that choice remains open to criticism and revision.

Sources and literature

Authority
Existing rights or treaty sources, plus a World4Humans project choice or operationalization.
Relationship
Established standards, methods or components exist; the wider World4Humans formulation is not established by them alone.
